
Fall 2008 Opening Information
We're glad you've chosen to live at University Courtyard for the 2008-2009 academic year and hope that you will have a great time here.
The halls open for Fall 2008 on August 21 at 9 AM. We look forward to your arrival! There will be plenty of opportunites for you to get involved and meet new friends here at University Courtyard.

Check-in (August 21, 9 AM - August 22, 11 PM )
At check-in, you will be required to provide a photo ID and to complete various check-in documents.
- Unload and move in
- Baggage Buddies will be available to help you unload and move your belongings to your room on Thursday from 9 AM - 4 PM and Friday from
10 AM - 1 PM. Should you arrive outside of these times, you may check out a hand truck from the Atrium to move your belongings.

- Baker, Graves, Homan Halls (luggage unloading area is located along each building)
- Aspen, Birch, Cedar, Ponderosa, Sequoia, Sycamore (luggage can be unloaded behind the Atrium. You can enter off Shaw to Barton following establish traffic pattern)

Color Games
Color Games are competitive and noncompetitive events and activities that are played in teams designated by hall. Each team can earn points through attendance and participation. The hall that earns the most points will be awarded a pizza party. Events run from Thursday, August 21 through Sunday, August 24.

- Keycard
- You will be given a temporary room key. You'll be required to have your student ID card programmed as your room key soon after you move in. You should have your ID card picture taken during Dog Days.
- Meal Plans
- When you completed your "Student Housing and Meal Plan License Agreement" you selected a meal plan. The University Dining Hall (UDH) is open from 6:30 AM - 8 PM Mon-Fri and 10 AM - 8 PM on the weekends.
- Phone Services
- If you bring a phone to University Courtyard, you'll be able to set up phone service in your room. You or your roommate will need to sign up with Information Technology Services (ITS). There is a one-time setup fee of $20 with a monthly service fee of $17 per phone line. Voicemail service is $3 per month. Additional information about phone service will be provided when you check in.

- Student parking permits are available at two locations on campus and required if you intend to park your vehicle on campus. Permits can be purchased for $68 per semester at the Police Department downstairs in the USU Pavilion or at Joyal Administration during business hours. Parking will be relaxed in Log G and Lot E for move-in. Overnight parking will be relaxed in Log G ONLY until Augst 25 at 7 AM.

- University Courtyard's computer lab is open 24-hours a day and is free to all residents. To sign up for Fresno State email, go to http://email.csufresno.edu. You will need your student ID number to sign up. University Courtyard now offers free wireless internet in lobbies and community-style junctions. Residents can log in using their Fresno State email address and password. Broadband is available for $24.95 per month and dial-up is only $4.95 per month.

- Others
- Bed rail - If you're concerned about sleeping in the loft configuration you can request a bed rail to be installed free of charge.
- Furniture arrangement - If both roommates agree tools are available for reconfiguring the furniture.
- Bike racks and locks - Bike racks are located throughout University Courtyard and the Fresno State campus. You may rent a bike through the University.
- Free basic cable - Bring your own television to access the cable network. If you wish to upgrade to premium, monthly fees apply and you can speak with a representative here on Thursday 8/21 or Friday 8/22.

- Resident Directors
- Resident Directors are responsible for the day-to-day operation of their assigned all housing 200-400 students.
- Assistant Resident Directors
- Assistant Resident Directors must have at least one year previous experience on the Residence Life Staff.
- Resident Advisors
- Resident Advisors are responsible for a floor and/or wing of residents. Resident Advisors are selected based on their concern for people, demonstrated leadership skills and class standing of sophomore or above.
- Public Safety Assistants
- This position offers a rewarding role as a leader/helper. Under the direct supervision of a University Police officer, Public Safety Assistants patrol the University Courtyard grounds, parking lots, and interior of the halls for safety and security as well as provide escort service.
- Want to get involved?
- Gain leadership through University Courtyard's Residence Hall Association (RHA) and Boosting Alcohol Consciousness Concerning the Health of University Students (BACCHUS).

- Financial Aid Workshops
- Workshops will occur during opening weekend. See Check-in Brochure at opening for days, times, and locations.
- Financial Information
- An invoice for room and board for the 2008-2009 academic year will be mailed to the person responsible for payment on the account. The invoice reflects University Courtyard academic year fees based on the room type you were assigned, selected meal plan and selected payment plan. Payments must be made according to the schedule to avoid delinquency. First payment is due July 5, 2008. Invoices received after July 5th payments are deferred until 5 days after receipt. A $25 late fee is assessed if a payment is received after the 5-day grace period.
- Obtain Health Insurance
- If you do not have it yet, call CSU healthlink at 1.800.853.5899 or visit their website at http://www.csuhealthlink.com for help in obtaining insurance. Remember you must have some type of health insurance within two weeks of check-in.
- Admission
- Please note that the confirmation to live in the residence halls does not mean you have been accepted to the University. The Admissions and Records Office notifies you directly regarding your admission status.
- Cancellation
- If for any reason you should not attend CSUF for the 2008-2009 academic year or live on-campus, you must notify University Courtyard in writing via certified mail and postmarked by July 20, 2008. Phone or e-mail cancellations are not accepted.
