Tip of the Week:
Make an appointment with your Advisor
Even though Mid-Terms are over you still have unfinished business-make an appointment with your major advisor. This semester is half way over and before you know it Thanksgiving and Winter break will be here. Right before you leave for Thanksgiving break Spring 2010 registration for classes begins. During this time students are battling for seats in classes to cover their major or general education requirement. To be prepared for this crazy time, students should set an appointment to see their major advisor starting right now! If your major is undeclared you can still meet with an advisor through the Student Success Services in Joyal Administration building room 224.

Marygrace DeLucchi (Assistant Resident Director)
What’s BACCHUS? A lot of people ask that. It stands for Boosting Alcohol Consciousness Concerning the Health of University Students. More commonly, we’re the Drug and Alcohol Awareness Committee at University Courtyard. You might know us, our members are all University Courtyard staff members: RA’s Guili, Elisa, and Janel; PSAs Matt and Ryan; and ARD Marygrace. If you’re interested in joining, talk to one of us, or send an e-mail to courtyardbacchus@gmail.com.
This week, we’re putting on our first event of the year. Most students don’t know it, but this week is National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness week. We’ll be in the Atrium from 9 to 11 on Wednesday night, handing out free milk and cookies and spreading the word about students and alcohol safety. We’ve got cookie donations from all over campus, and some of them are even homemade. We’ll see you there!

Beer Cooler? Nope. Bear Cooler - See video here.
A 125-pound bear wandered into a Hayward, Wisconsin grocery store, made a 'B' line for the Beer cooler, climbed up on a 12-foot-high shelf, and chilled for an hour whilst employees got the customers out of the store and called animal control.
Employees said that the bear looked like it just wanted a place to chill. It didn't drink any of the beer before animal control officers tranquilized it and took it away from the store.
Hayward is 140 miles northeast of Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Stroller Hit By Train, Baby Survives - See video here.
An Australian infant has miraculously survived his stroller getting hit by a train. The train pushed the stroller, with the baby inside, about 130 feet before stopping.
Security camera footage caught the whole incident. The mother of the child turned away for a moment, and the stroller then rolled onto the tracks. The mother was visibly shaken and panicked as the train hit the stroller.
The boy has only minor injuries. Officials said that this was a "lucky escape."

Student Stabs Officer, Officer Shoots Student
A 16-year-old high school junior is dead today after being shot in self-defense by the school's resource officer. The officer is being treated for wounds suffered during the attack.
Trevor Varinecz, requested a private meeting with the officer. During the meeting, Varinecz apparently pulled out a knife and stabbed the officer. The officer defended himself with gunfire.
School officials have not released the name of the officer, but said that he is expected to be released from the hospital today.

Black Bean Quesadilla
Ingredients:
× 2 burrito-size flour tortillas
× 1 (14 1/2-ounce) can refried low-fat black beans
× 1 cup chunky salsa
× 1 1/2 cups Mexican-style shredded cheese
× 1/2 cup prepared guacamole (from the refrigerated section)
× 2 tablespoons sour cream
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
- Lay 1 tortilla on a clean work surface. Spread the beans evenly over the tortilla. Spoon 3/4 cup of salsa over the beans, then sprinkle with the cheese. Top with the second tortilla. Place the quesadilla on a foil-covered cookie sheet.
- Bake for approximately 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the top is crisp and brown. Meanwhile, swirl the guacamole and sour cream together in a small bowl. Cut the quesadilla into 4 equal portions and transfer to a plate. Serve with the guacamole mixture and remaining 1/4 cup of salsa.
