Food = Unwanted Furry Friends

To prevent mice from moving in, it’s important that you dispose of all left over    food and keep all uneaten food sealed and put away. Though we take measures in keeping rodents out of Courtyard, all residents must help with the prevention.

Chopping Block, Writer’s Block
By: G.H. 3rd

Tick, tick, tick
Time is running out.
Tick, tick, tick
I’m on the chopping block.

Scratch, scratch, scratch

So many idea’s floating through my head
I don’t know where to start.
Every idea I put on paper
It seems to end up on the chopping block.

Whish, crush, thump

Looking at my work that lays at my feet,
All I know is time is near.
Picking up piece of paper and throwing it back down,
I’m not on the chopping block, just my writer’s block.

Gonzalo Aranda-Sandoval (Resident Advisor)

Housing Happenings: Do you have any hidden talents? Explain
Gonzalo Aranda-Sandoval: I have the ability to play the violin, drive stick-shift, build rockets, I hold the 8th grade record for mousetrap cars in distance, I can also probably find verses in the Bible faster than anyone you know.

H.H.: What is your worst dating experience?
G.A-S.: Next Question.

H.H.: Do you have any phobias? Name one, and explain.
G.A-S.: I am mortified of complacency in life, the fact that people don't reach their dreams really depresses me. Giving up my dream for a more "secure" 9-5 job and buying a typical house in the suburbs with a 4 door-sedan...that is my phobia

H.H.:
What is important to you right now?
G.A-S.: What’s most important to me right now is trying to live a good life within God's standards (which is a definite work in progress lol but its progressing). Also making sure I graduate in May and that I get my business up and going strong with the least rookie mistakes as possible.

H.H.: Name one thing you miss about being a kid?
G.A-S.: The thing I miss most about being a kid is my family parents being together and happy.

H.H.: Being an RA in Homan again since last year, what hall would you like to live in if you had the choice?
G.A-S.: I wanted to live in Baker :( I think my Homan 3rd floor Westside boys make up for it though).

H.H.: How many languages can you speak? Name them.
G.A-S.: I am fluent in Spanish (I was born in Ciudad Guzman, Mexico), English, and I am getting better at French and plan to be fluent by the end of the year in Portuguese.

H.H.: If you were filming a movie and the director ask you who would you want to be your leading lady, who would it be and why?
G.A-S.: Taylor Swift! Freakin' Kanye.....lol

News Around the World

Man Trades,His 74-Year-Old Father's Car for $50 Worth of Crack Cocaine

California: A 39-year-old man has been arrested for vehicle theft after he allegedly traded a car belonging to his elderly father for 50 dollars of crack cocaine.

His 74-year-old father called authorities in the early hours of Wednesday morning to report that his son had made off with his car. Officers attended the house and arrested the son when he returned.

The vehicle was spotted a short time later and the driver of the vehicle jumped out of it while it was still moving; the car collided with two parked cars. The driver was caught and arrested for evading an officer and for resisting arrest.

Full Size 2-Story Home Built Out of Legos - View Pics Here

England: Top Gear co-host James Mays has constructed a full size two-story house out of Legos with the assistance of almost 1,000 volunteers. The 3.3-million-block residence even has a working toilet and shower.

The Lego house is facing destruction unless a buyer can be found before Tuesday as Denbies Wine Estate, where the house is built, have asked for the construction to be shifted so harvesting can begin.

"Knocking it down is just wrong on every level. It's a really lovely thing -- it would break the hearts of the 1,000 people who worked like dogs to build it," said May.

Burglar Picks Wrong House -- Slain by Samurai Sword

A Johns Hopkins student at home early Tuesday morning heard commotion coming from his garage. He retrieved a Samurai Sword to defend himself before he confronted the noise with some other students who were staying in the house.
There in the garage they discovered a man and upon confrontation the suspected burglar lunged at the students. The student with the sword defended himself, hacking off the hand and slashed the torso of the man. The suspect died on the scene.

Baltimore Police responded and discovered the man had a long criminal history. Authorities are determining whether the student will face criminal charges.

Recipe Ideas

Lumpia (Filipino Egg Rolls)

Ingredients:

     ×   1 pound ground beef
     ×   3/4 cup shredded carrots
     ×   1/2 cup chopped onions
×   1 teaspoon or 2 cloves minced garlic
     ×   3/4 teaspoon pepper
     ×   2 teaspoons season salt
×   1 package of 50 Lumpia Wrappers OR
2 packages of 25 individually separated Lumpia Wrappers
     ×   1-1 1/2 cup(s) vegetable or olive oil
     ×
Small bowl of water

Directions:

    **Oven Directions:

Heat oven to 250°F. In ungreased large roasting pan, mix cereals, pretzels and almonds. In 1-quart saucepan, heat butter, mustard, honey and seasoned salt over medium heat, stirring frequently, until butter is melted and mixture is hot. Pour over cereal mixture, stirring until evenly coated. Bake uncovered about 45 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes, until mixture begins to brown. Spread on waxed paper or foil to cool, about 15 minutes. Store in airtight container.

    Microwave Directions:
  1. First, you'll want to brown your ground beef with your chopped onions, shredded carrots, garlic, pepper, and season salt, over medium high heat in a skillet or frying pan. (I recommend using a frying pan that is at-least 1 1/2" to 2" deep. I use the same pan to fry the lumpia in once it is rolled and finished.) When the meat is nice and brown drain the excess grease and set aside.
  2. Separate the Lumpia wrappers. (The wrappers need to be defrosted if they are frozen. You'll also want to have a plate to set them on as well as a damp kitchen towel to cover them; we don't want our wrappers to dry out! )

  3. Open the package and take out the stack of Lumpia wrappers, start at the edges and gently start peeling the edges upward, continue around and round until you eventually get to the center and loosen the individual sheet off of the stack. Now, place the loose sheet on your plate under the damp towel or cloth.
  4. All that's left to do now is heat your oil in your frying pan on medium high heat. You only need about 1/2" of oil across the bottom of the pan.

  5. Once the oil is hot place about 4-5 Lumpia across the pan and lightly brown each side of the Lumpia. About 3-5 minutes each side. (It will also vary with your stove. So if it seems like they are burning quickly turn your burner down).

  6. They should be a nice golden brown color. Now you want to let them cool and drain some of the excess grease off of them.

  7. (This recipe came from Click Here)
