Taofiki Gafar (Assistant Resident Director)

Housing Happenings: So you made a Beyonce move and “Upgraded” from RA to ARD (Assistant Resident Director. How different is it from being an RA versus an ARD?
Taofiki Gafar: The benefits is I get more staff members confiding in me.

H.H.: Give me 3 places you would like to go on a vacation?
T.G.: Hiking in the Swiss Alps, go to Brazil to do community service there and to England to see Banksy’s street art work.

H.H.: Tell us the one thing that you would happily do again in life?
T.G.: I would like to…Let me get back to you on that one.

H.H.: What type of music do you listen to and why?
T.G.: Heavy Metal, lot’s of Jazz, Spanish guitar music, acid jazz, country music (Jonny Cash), 90’s Hip-Hop (The Roots, Tribe Called Quest), because every genre represent different type of reality.

H.H.: Do you like rainy days or snowy winter days more? Why?
T.G.: None because I hate the rain and cold, that’s why I’m here in Fresno.

H.H.: Are you old fashioned? Why?
T.G.: Yeah, I sit around wearing my careens, loafers, and my old man glasses.

H.H.: Are you usually late, early or right on time? Why?
T.G.: I am everything, just depends on the event that I’m attending.

H.H.: What are your goals in life?
T.G.: You’ll need more then one issue for me to explain my goals in life. The End.

News Around the World

4-Year-Old Scarred From Henna Tattoo

A 4-year-old boy named Charlie is scarred for life from a henna tattoo he got while on vacation. He suffered horrible burns to his arm. It has been said that Charlie begged his parents to let him get the tattoo.

Within days of getting the tattoo Charlie's arm began to bleed and became blistered and he was put on antibiotics. He now has a 2-inch scar of a flower on his arm. Charlie's mother is now in guilt for allowing him to get the tattoo.

Henna tattoos are said to be harmless. Some henna artists mix the henna with cheap hair dye, which can burn skin. Charlie's skin began peeling days after returning from vacation. Charlie will now have to live with the scar for the rest of his life.

Man Slaps Child, Charged With Felony

Roger Stephens, 61, has been charged with felony cruelty to a child after repeatedly slapping someone else’s child. According to the police report, Stephens hit the girl at least four times, and then said, "See, I told you I would shut her up."

The 2-year-old and her mother Sonya Mathews had been shopping at Wal-Mart when the toddler started crying. That’s when Stephens told Mathews, "If you don't shut that baby up, I will shut her up for you." He then grabbed the child and slapped her.

A spokesperson for the family said the child is doing well. "As of today, she has really forgotten about it." The mother is still angry and shaken up over the incident.

Kids Overdose Energy Drinks on Way to School

Five Year 7 Quakers Hill High School students have suffered side effects, including dizziness and nausea, after consuming energy drinks on their way to school. The high-caffeine beverage came in the form of a 60 ml shot.

When one student arrived home, his grandmother became concerned with his racing heart. While energy drinks are not available at school canteens, some students have been found to obtain the product from local shops.

Work has been done by the Rees Government to remove two offending products from store shelves that have been identified to contain excessive amounts of the drug. An investigation is underway to determine caffeine levels of other energy drinks.
