Tip of the Week: Start Thinking About Fall 2010 Registration!

The CLASS SCHEDULE is available for purchase at the Kennel Bookstore.  The web class schedule is also available.

REGISTRATION APPOINTMENT times for fall 2010 are now available in your Student Center at http://my.csufresno.edu.  Appointment times are assigned from April 26 through April 30 based on your class level and units completed, not including units currently in progress.

Take time now to check your HOLDS on your Student Center under the heading labeled `Holds`.  Make sure you do not have any obligations that will prevent you from registering for your classes.

Also, take time to confirm your MAJOR.  If you need to change your major, make sure you allow plenty of time before registration begins.  It is important you are listed under your correct major for prerequisite checking!  Come to the Admissions and Records service windows for assistance.

*IMPORTANT CHANGE! - READ...
To ensure that all students are able to select courses needed for progress toward their degree, all students will be LIMITED TO A MAXIMUM OF 16 UNITS during the early registration cycle from April 26 - July 30, 2010.  The 16 unit limit also includes units for courses that are Wait Listed!  Approval for excess units beyond the 16 units, will not be accepted during this time.  Beginning on Monday, August 9, the 16 unit restriction will be lifted and students will be able to register for additional courses.  Undergraduate students will be set for 18 units (unless their GPA allows for a higher limit); credential students can register for a maximum of 18 units; and graduate students are restricted to 16 units.

Call the HELP Desk at 278-7000 if you have problems logging in.

Call Admissions and Records at 278-2261 during normal business hours if you have any questions.

News Around the World

Woman Has Her Tongue Pierced, Dies Two Days Later

Wales: 34-year-old Amanda Taylor has died of what is believed to be blood poisoning just two days after having her tongue pierced. She had gotten the piercing for her birthday.

Two days after getting her tongue pierced she sought medical help because her tongue was swollen. The doctor prescribed antibiotics but Taylor was found dead by her mother just hours later.

"Her friend was having it done too so I said to Amanda: ´You´re going to be 34. I´ll give you my blessing, but I´m still not 100 percent happy.´ .. If I´d said no she wouldn´t have done it. I wish I said no that day instead of yes," said her mother.

Man Carrying Drugs and Sitting in Stolen Car Puts His Head Out the Window and Swears Loudly at Passing Police Officer

Canada: A 47-year-old is in police custody charged with probation violation, breaching court orders, impaired driving, auto theft, and drug possession after police found him in a stolen car parked beside a road.

A Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer was driving past when the man began screaming obscenities at the police vehicle. The officer decided the outburst was worthy of further investigation and came back to look into the situation further.

Teen Sues Mother for Allegedly Hacking His Facebook Account, Posting Slanderous Entries

Arkansas: A 16-year-old boy has filed a lawsuit against his mother after she allegedly took over his Facebook account and posted comments he claims are slanderous. In addition his mother, Denise New, also faces a harassment charge.

The son lives with his grandparents and has asked the court to make a no-contact order against his mother. Ms New claims she was within her rights to keep an eye on her son´s account and intervene after some of the content she read.

"I read things on his Facebook about how he had gone to Hot Springs one night and was driving 95 mph home because he was upset with a girl," said Ms New.

Recipe Ideas

Fresh-Mex Corn Wontons

Ingredients:

     ×   3 ears corn, husked
     ×   1 small lime
     ×   1 1/2 cups sour cream
×   1/4 cup fresh cilantro, finely chopped
     ×   2 teaspoons hot sauce
     ×
Kosher salt
     ×   36 square wonton wrappers
×   2 plum tomatoes, diced (about 3/4 cup)
     ×
1 medium avocado, diced (about 3/4 cup)
×   1/2 cup finely diced red onion
     ×   Vegetable oil, for frying

Directions:

  1. Place the corn in a steamer basket set over a saucepan of simmering water. Cover and steam 8 minutes.

  2. Meanwhile, grate the lime zest into a small bowl and squeeze in 1 tablespoon lime juice. Add the sour cream, cilantro, hot sauce and 1/4 teaspoon salt and mix well; set the dip aside.

  3. Remove the corn from the steamer basket and let cool slightly, then cut the kernels off the cobs. Combine with 1/2 teaspoon salt in a bowl.

  4. Line a large baking sheet with paper towels, then arrange the wonton wrappers on top in a single layer. Place 1 teaspoon corn, 1/2 teaspoon tomato, 1/2 teaspoon avocado and 1/4 teaspoon red onion in the center of each wrapper.

  5. Heat about 1 1/2 inches of vegetable oil in a large pot until a deep-fry thermometer registers 375 degrees (or place a wooden skewer in the oil to test the temperature; bubbles should form around it).

  6. Moisten the edges of each wonton wrapper with water, then fold in half diagonally to enclose the filling and form a triangle; press gently to seal. Working in batches, lower the wontons into the hot oil with tongs and fry about 1 minute. Flip and fry another 30 seconds, or until light golden. Transfer to paper towels to drain. Serve with the cilantro-lime dip.
