There’s a bit of Green in the Medals
Just a little tidbit for everyone, did you know at the Winter Olympics, the medals contained recycled material? In an effort to be green, the use of old televisions, computers, keyboards, and other electronic parts, which contain actual gold, silver, and bronze, were gathered and added to the final product.
Of the 1,000 medals produced, there is 1.52% of recycled material for gold medals, 0.12% of recycled material for silver medals, and 1.11% material for bronze medals. Sure, it may seem miniscule but interesting nonetheless.
Since 2008 University Courtyard has made major headway in “going green”. In each Going Green issue of Housing Happenings, we will highlight one of our sustainable living tips so that together we can build a more eco-friendly community.
- UC’s Sustainable Living Tip #6: Reusable water bottles being given out to students when they move in.

Bryan Swarts (Resident Advisor )
Housing Happenings: If you could meet one living celeb, who would it be?
Bryan Swarts: Honesty, there are way too many to list. I would probably be content with any of them.
H.H.: What’s your earliest childhood memory?
B.S.: Watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles at my old House. I think I was 2 or 3 years old. Good times, good times.
H.H.: What did people tease you about growing up?
B.S.: I tend to laugh at pretty much anything. Not at anything bad or at times were you shouldn’t laugh, but other then that, yeah, anything.
H.H.: What’s the bravest thing you’ve ever done?
B.S.: There are many definitions for bravery, and with that, I’ll tell whoever wants to know in a more private, personal setting.
H.H.: What in bravest thing you’ve ever done?
B.S.: Music through instruments. I love listening to music and singing but I have always wanted to learn how to play the violin, the piano, the flute, bagpipes, etc.
H.H.: What in life are you most proud of?
B.S.: My family and the great up-bringing they gave me.
H.H.: Which is your favorite Comic book character?
B.S.: Didn’t really read any comics when I was younger, but if I had to pick one, I’d go with Blade. I like his intelligence, his lethality, his realness, and the fact he fight for people who barely know his existence, while he is also fighting his powerful weakness.
H.H.: Has a song made you cry?
B.S.: Yes, several actually. Ask me what they are and I will tell you.

Man Caught Snorting Drugs Off Police Car
A 26-year-old German man who was having a great time at a nightclub decided to make it even better. He ducked outside to the parking lot and decided to snort some amphetamines.
He found a car and broke out the drugs. He cut a few lines on the hood of the car, getting everything nice and ready. Unfortunately for the man, the car belonged to two police officers.
It was an unmarked car, and it just so happened that the cops came back just as he was about to take the drugs. He was quickly detained. "He´s got horrible luck," said Bert Rauenbusch, police spokesman for Nuremberg.

Depressed Man Does High Wire Act on High Voltage Power Lines
Guangdong province, China: 26-year-old Xiang Jun has deprived the city of Dongguan of power for four hours by walking up and down on high voltage cables. He had been drinking.
When rescue workers couldn´t talk him down they opted to turn off the power so he wouldn´t be electrocuted. They also kept an air cushion underneath him. Eventually he jumped down onto it.
Police are looking into the matter but it isn´t known if they plan to charge Xiang. Meanwhile he has been taken to a hospital for suspected depression. He wasn´t injured during his high wire act.

Lone Gunman Shoots Officers at Pentagon Entrance
John Patrick Bedell is dead after calmly opening fire on two police officers at the entrance to the Pentagon, superficially wounding each of them. The California man, who is believed to have acted alone, was killed by the officers´ return fire.
Bedell, 36, was wearing a business suit and carrying a Sturm 9mm and a Taurus 9mm along with "many magazines" of ammunition, said the Pentagon police chief. Bedell was critically wounded in the head and died at George Washington University Hospital.
Police are investigating anti-government Internet postings that may have been written by Bedell, and they do not believe he was connected to any international or domestic group. Bedell´s car has been found and is being searched for evidence.
