Tip of the Week: Study Tips For The Final Exam
-
Time management. Plan, plan, plan. Before finals begin, get out your calendar and schedule as much of your finals week as possible. Then stick with the schedule.
-
Schedule in study breaks. Don't plan to study non-stop for the next five days. You'll go insane, and you'll be too fried to do well on the exams. When you write your schedule, include short study breaks to help you recharge. You'll feel so much better and will be able to concentrate so much more. Here's some suggestions for great study breaks.
-
Schedule in sleep. Some people can function well on three hours of sleep a night. Most cannot. You'll do much better during exams if your mental state is good, and sleep is essential for this.
-
Exercise. There's no better source for stress relief. Just don't overdo it to the point that you're procrastinating heavily. Go for short, stress-relieving activities, like racquetball or a treadmill run. And don't underestimate the value of a brisk walk.
-
Prioritize. You have limited time to study and will have to choose what to spend the most time with. You could spend hours and hours on that math exam because if you do really well, you might be able to pull of a C. Or you can spend hours and hours on a history exam because if you do well, you've got a good shot at an A. It's up to you.
-
Form effective study groups. Just don't waste your time with lousy ones. Here are some tips for effective study groups.
-
Free your schedule. As much as possible, eliminate other responsibilities. Work fewer hours. Put off social events. Definitely put off shopping.
-
Ask your professor for help. If you're confused about your notes or the readings, go to the resident expert. This works much better if you don't put off studying until the last minute. It's a good idea to read through all of your notes before you start to study, so that you can inquire early about things that confuse you.
-
Keep things in perspective. What's the worst thing that can happen if you don't do well on this test? Excessive stress will make you crazy and hurt your performance on tests, so as much as you can, relax. And if you're having serious problems with anxiety during final exams, seek help at your school's counseling center. This is a common problem that schools are well equipped to help you with.

Ryan Bordenave (Public Safety Assistant)
Housing Happenings: What’s your favorite T.V show this semester?
Ryan Bordenave: “The Office” because I like the humor and the way Jim treats Dwight.
H.H.: How does it feel being a PSA this year?
R.B.: I love the night hours and the possibility of action in every building contestant.
H.H.: What’s your hardest class you’re taking this semester and why?
R.B.: California History because it’s a night class and it has lots of reading. Boo reading…
H.H.: Who is your favorite Detective and why?
R.B.: Sherlock Holmes. Always gets the bad guy and saves the day.
H.H.: What is one random thing that has personally happened to you since your freshman year?
R.B.: Getting the RA job in Homan last year. It was a spontaneous event that turned out to be great experience.
H.H.: Myspace or Facebook and why?
R.B.: Facebook. Only on Facebook can you change the language to pirate talk. And cause I don’t have a Myspace, so Facebook wins by default.
H.H.: Since you won free Casa Corona for a year through Red Zone, how many Burritos have you ate?
R.B.: Only like five. I don’t eat it to much…Gotta maintain my figure… Hahaha!
H.H.: What is the craziest thing that has happened to you this semester?
R.B.: I out a trashcan fire by Homan with a fire extinguisher and saw the fire truck.

Man Drives Million-Dollar Bugatti into Salt Water Marsh Because of Pelican
- See Video Here.
An unidentified man has ruined his $1.25 million dollar Bugatti Veyron by driving it into a salt water Marsh in Galveston, Texas. A low-flying pelican was allegedly to blame for the incident, according to the driver.
A cell phone was also to blame, as the driver dropped and was bending to pick it up when he veered off the road and into the marsh. The car was half-submerged in the marsh and police do not know if the luxury car was salvageable.

Woman Who Mistook Police Officer for Waitress Arrested for DUI
A woman from Elizabethton, Tennessee, has been arrested on suspicion of DUI after she thought the police officer who was investigating her behaviour was a car hop -- or waitress -- at a Sonic drive-in.
The woman was slumped over the steering wheel and another person had called 911 after seeing her nearly strike several other cars on the way to the drive in. She tried to pay the police officer US$20 even after identification had been established.
Drug paraphernalia such as a syringe and spoon as well as white powdery traces were found in the car along with several bottles of medicine.

Turn a Weapon in and Face Prison
Ex-soldier Paul Clarke, 27, was found guilty by a jury after 20 minutes of deliberation on charges that he possessed a firearm. Mr Clarke was quoted as saying, "I didn't think for one moment I would be arrested."
Mr Clarke saw a black bin liner from the balcony of his home. He took it inside and found a sawed-off shotgun with two rounds of ammo. Not knowing what to do with the stuff he took it to the local police station after calling the superintendent.
Mr Clarke was immediately arrested and locked in a cell. He awaits sentencing on December the 11th. His judge at Guildford Crown Court said, "The intention of anybody possessing a firearm is irrelevant."
