× UC’s Sustainable Living Tip #3: Recycled ink and toner cartridges throughout campus, but they all come to University Courtyard and we’re the ones who recycle them!
Staying Safe
Safety is a top priority at University Courtyard. Attend the Campus Safety Presentation at your mandatory hall wing meeting to learn about what you can do to protect yourself and how to utilize safety features available on campus. Keep yourself and our campus safe by following these simple steps.
× Don’t let strangers into your hall. Each resident received a key at check-in that can open the exterior door and their own room door.
× Report any suspicious activities or emergencies to University Police from a call box by dialing 8-8400 or 911.
× Take advantage of escort services by calling 559-278-8400.
× Never walk alone at night and always stay in well lit areas.

Annie King (Resident Advisor)
Housing Happenings: Have you ever been compared to someone (ie actress, singing, etc)?
Annie King: Not really
H.H.: Your last name King right? I’m just going to throw it out there and ask: Are you related to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.?
A.K.: Yeah, him and Stephen King.
H.H.: Do you have any pets? If so what are they?
A.K.: I've got an orange cat at home named Babycakes. She's such a cutie and I miss her a lot!
H.H.: Do you like to sing while you are taking a shower? What do sing in the shower if you do sing?
A.K.: I sing when I'm at home, in the privacy of my own shower, and I've got my ipod plugged in. It depends on my mood as to what I sing, but right now it would probably be Jason Mraz or Sara Bareilles.
H.H.: What is the most rewarding experience you have had and what made it so?
A.K.: I'd have to say when my first issue of my high school magazine was published was a pretty awesome feeling. I had designed a couple pages and written a few stories, and it was neat showing the whole school what I loved to do. My artwork has also been displayed here in the Conley Art building which is also a pretty rewarding experience.
H.H.: Who or what inspires you and why?
A.K.: It sounds odd but I get inspired by things like creative packaging and advertisements. Being a graphic designer, I look at things like that in a different way than most people do.
H.H.: What committee are you involved in at University Courtyard?
A.K.: I'm a part of the Wellness Committee. It's pretty cool because we try to show ways to be healthy and well in everyday life. You don't necessarily have to go to the gym everyday to workout, but you can play volleyball or basketball with your friends.
H.H.: Did you have a nickname in College? If so what is it?
A.K.: People always think "Annie" is a nickname, but it's not. It's my full name. One time in junior high, there was a girl who thought that "Annie" was a nickname for "Helga." That was pretty weird...

Driver Gets 15 Moving Violations in 11 Minutes
Switzerland: A 47-year-old Italian man is facing a long stint without a license after being cited for 15 moving violations in 11 minutes. He first caught the attention of police by driving at 100 mph in a 60 mph zone.
Over the next 11 minutes his offenses included running a red light, failing to stop for police, using a phone while driving, drug driving, speeding, driving too close to other cars, weaving across the dividing line, and driving on the shoulder.
"This character will be getting his driving license back around the time Haley´s Comet makes its next appearance," said a spokesperson for St Gallen police.

Man Guilty of Reclining While Intoxicated - See picture of La-Z-Boy chair here
Dennis LeRoy Anderson, 62, from Proctor, Minnesota, pleaded guilty to a DWI involving a home-made motorized La-Z-Boy. The incident occurred on Aug. 31, 2008, when Anderson's lounge chair hit a parked vehicle.
At the time of the incident, Anderson had a blood-alcohol content of 0.29%, which is more than three times the legal limit. Anderson claims that he was driving the chair fine until a woman jumped on it and knocked the chair off course.
Anderson's recliner was powered by a converted lawnmower and had a stereo, cup holders, a small steering wheel, and a National Hot Rod Racing Association sticker. As a result of the DWI, Anderson's chair was confiscated and will be auctioned off.

Would-Be Bank Robber ´Meets´ the Ex-Marine Waiting in Line Behind Him
Nevada: A yet to be identified would-be bank robber has has had his attempt at crime brought to a quick end by an ex-Marine who overheard him threaten to shoot a female teller.
59-year-old Gary Mattson quickly rendered the robber unconscious. When he was searched it was revealed he had overstated his weapon. Rather than a gun he had a balpeen hammer. He is likely to face federal charges in the near future.
"I guess my Marine training, the fight or flight instinct, kicked in. I had to do something. After all, he threatened a woman," said Mattson.

Crescent Mummy Dogs
Ingredients:
× 1can (8 oz) Pillsbury® refrigerated crescent dinner rolls or 1 can (8 oz) Pillsbury® Crescent Recipe Creations™ refrigerated flaky dough sheet
× 2 ½ slices American cheese, quartered (2.5 oz)
× 10 large hot dogs
× Cooking spray
× Mustard or ketchup, if desired
Directions:
- Heat oven to 375°F.
- If using crescent rolls: Unroll dough; separate at perforations, creating 4 rectangles. Press perforations to seal. If using dough sheet: Unroll dough; cut into 4 rectangles.
- With knife or kitchen scissors, cut each rectangle lengthwise into 10 pieces, making a total of 40 pieces of dough. Slice cheese slices into quarters (1/2 slice cheese, cut in half).
- Wrap 4 pieces of dough around each hot dog and 1/4 slice of cheese to look like "bandages," stretching dough slightly to completely cover hot dog. About 1/2 inch from one end of each hot dog, separate "bandages" so hot dog shows through for "face." On ungreased large cookie sheet, place wrapped hot dogs (cheese side down); spray dough lightly with cooking spray.
- Bake 13 to 17 minutes or until dough is light golden brown and hot dogs are hot. With mustard, draw features on "face."
