November 15, 2009 Dear Resident Advisor Applicant: I am delighted that you are considering submitting an application for the Resident Advisor (RA) position at University Courtyard here at Fresno State. The RA position is one of the most dynamic student leadership roles at a college or university. If you are interested in becoming a leader, “Don’t Talk About It...Be About It.” This position will allow you to truly experience what it is like to “Be” a Leader. Resident Advisors have the ability to influence the university experience of the peers they serve. It’s a twenty-four-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week experience because you live where you work and work where you live. We are looking to fill the positions with students that reflect the campus population. There is no perfect RA type. The personalities, skills sets, personal histories and academic backgrounds of the persons who fill these positions should be rich and varied to make an ideal team. We will train selected candidates with the mechanics they need to be successful. What you must bring to the job is a commitment to leadership and service, a desire to participate in and facilitate a community living experience and the ability to serve on a team of dedicated professionals and paraprofessionals.
